1.1 Introduction
Any artist will tell you that the use of color is a major component of the design process, regardless of the medium. Digital artwork and photography are no exception to this. Color can be powerful and evocative, but only if you know how to use it properly. Hi there, I'm Kirk Nelson with Tuts+, welcome to Working With Color in Photoshop. It's helpful to understand a little bit about why it's so important. So the first part of this course will be all about basic color theory. We will look at the classic color wheel and how it works. We'll explore what it means to use warm and cool colors. And how to create color schemes that are vibrant and inviting. Then we'll take a look at the different ways Photoshop handles colors. That's the color modes. Talk about what they are and the advantages and drawbacks of each of them. After that, we'll use this knowledge to assemble a colorful and vibrant digital scene. This includes several techniques for controlling color in Photoshop like the hue saturation adjustment layers, blending modes, and gradient maps. Finally, after all that, I've got a small collection of my favorite tips and tricks for dealing with color in Photoshop. At the end of this course you'll be able to identify what colors work well together, and understand why they work the way they do, and how to implement that into your own designs. So with that, let's get started on the next chapter, which is basic color theory.
