1.1 Introduction
Hello and welcome to this Tuts Plus course, mastering sports illustration and design. My name is Simeon Nelson, I am an international commercial freelance illustrator and graphic artist based in the UK. Being a massive sports fan, it's no wonder that many of my commissioned self-initiated projects are based around sport. In this course, you will learn how to create a highly impactful eye-catching sports poster using a combination of Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and mixed media elements. The course is split into two sections. Section one, mastering sports illustration, and section two, mastering sports design. Within mastering sports illustration, we will map out the initial composition in Photoshop before crossing over into Illustrator, where we will create a detailed realistic picture portrait from photo reference of a central figure that emphasizes high energy. Using a combination of effective, comic-like line working and gradient techniques, as well as drawing a detailed, two tone silhouette. In mastering sport design, back in Photoshop we will arrange the final composition by adding some cool scanned in watercolors and chalk marks. Then finally, add in the text and cool texture to complete the course. All the mixed media elements, such as watercolor spatters, chalk marks and reference photos can be found in the project files folder. So let's dive right in and start mastering sports illustration and design.
