4.1 Conclusion

This is the final lesson of the course, in which I’ll recap what we've covered and share some tips, tricks and further reading sources.

4.1 Conclusion

Hello, and welcome to the final video of Illustrating Personality in Character Design. First of all, I want to thank you for watching, and seeing this course through. I hope you've had as much fun as I have exploring the world of wacky pirate characters, and that you've learned enough to feel confident in trying your own designs. Like I’ve kept repeating throughout this course, I want you to experiment and find your own way of doing things, with my process and tips acting only as a guide. Characters are inspired by real life, but they truly belong where the imagination goes wild, so don’t restrict yourself to what you see me do. I've also said that in order to understand how to draw various elements of characters, you do indeed need some knowledge of how to draw the real life versions of these elements. The best and fastest way to achieve proficiency in this, is to study from real life or photos. Trying to do that, even 20 minutes a day, will improve your capacity for drawing immensely. For rendering, I recommend James Gurney's book called Color and Light, a solid reference for mastering the use of lights, shadows, and colors. There are tons of resources out there, and I hope that this course has not only give you some solid knowledge to start with, but has also inspired you to create some awesome stuff of your own. So, thank you again for watching. And I can't wait to see some wonderful characters created by you in the future.
