1.1 Introduction

Welcome to Fantasy Digital Portraits! My name is Melody Nieves, and in this course you'll learn how to create two beautiful fantasy portraits. First, we'll tackle the tools you need, discuss how to develop the concept for your art, and create two photo manipulations that will help us with our compositions. Afterwards, we'll jump right into creating male and female versions of our fantasy digital portraits.

1.1 Introduction

Hello, everyone. My name is Melody Nieves for tuts+, and I'd like to welcome you to Fantasy Digital Portraits. Creating fantasy art is like letting your imagination run wild. You can achieve whatever your heart's desire with absolutely no limitations. But in order to make your painting a solid, conceptual piece, there is definitely a method to the madness. If you love digital art as much as I do, you'll want to learn every technique imaginable for achieving gorgeous digital work. And after almost ten years of being a self-taught artist, I bet I've got a couple of great tips for making the process much easier for your next digital painting. We've already learned a little about painting portraits in my previous course, Digital Portrait Painting in Adobe Photoshop. Now let's shake things up by transforming two new references into their own fantasy portraits. First we'll answer the age-old questions, how do I come up with a good idea, and where should I start? Then we'll tackle these questions head on by developing the core ideas for our paintings. Following up with several experimental thumbnails to establish light and shadow, we'll be able to move on to our final portraits with the confidence, that any major issues or concerns have already been worked out. And you can follow along easily with this course because all of the references used for the portraits themselves, as well as their details, can be found online for free. There are many incredible discoveries that await you. So I hope you'll join me in this magical adventure. If you're ready to get started, let's move on to the next lesson, where I'll show you exactly what you'll need.
