2.2 What to Doodle?

Hello guys, you're watching how to Vector Doodle Art Course with [INAUDIBLE] at Tuts Plus. In this lesson, we'll be talking about choosing a topic for our doodles. We'll be looking through some useful web resources and deciding on the purpose of our future images. So what we need before we start drawing? Obviously, first of all we need to pick a topic. And there are two options here. Either we pick something that we'll like and that is connected to our favorite activities, or we need it for some work project. Here are a few examples of doodles and sketches which were used for various projects. For food package design, advertisement, and invitation design. Christmas cards, Easter cards and so on. Brainstorming the future topic of your Doodles is not an easy task but when you know the purpose, you get inspired and it makes it much easier to decide on the theme. What else can be useful is your hobby or the field you are a professional in. Maybe you travel a lot, then you can doodle some traditional symbols of your favorite country or city. Or maybe you're collecting some retro or vintage things. That will do, make some retro style sketches, these are so trendy. Or maybe you're making some projects for school, then you can depict some school related items. It can be anything. This whole course is inspirational. That means you don't have to draw exactly the same things in the same style as shown in the course. I'll be showing you the techniques that can be applied to any kind of doodles not depending on a topic. But, if you still hesitating on picking out the theme, here's a short list of my favorite topics with some Q art that might inspire you. Traveling & Culture. Flowers & Nature. Space food and drink kids' seasons and tell a days where this course, I think, all becomes a solid traveling theme because I lack summer time, and occasions now is to have decide on the topic. Let's look through some resources that my serve as sources on Thracian, and sometimes we know what we need to draw. What we might not know or remember how some complex object look like, for example a car or a weapon, and that's why we need a reference. We can even trace above it if we need some detailed outlines for some technical drawing, or we can just look at the picture and re-draw it in a stylized doodle look making the objects recognizable. This is what exactly we'll be doing in this course. It might seem that the easiest way is just to go directly to Google Images, dive the needed Q words, and there you have it: hundreds of ideas for inspiration. Another great source of references is that in about a market. Here you can find a collection of stock resources with photos, templates, illustrations and so on. For example, here are some photos on PhotoDune which may be helpful for all future doodles. Another great source of inspiring materials is Pinterest. Pinterest is the social visual network that allows you to save any image from any website including Pinterest itself to your board. You can create up to 352 bars customize them share transfer images between the birds and so on. Great! Now we have the topic and the references. So we're ready to start doodling. In our next lesson we will be making our precious doodles and discover some some tricks on making the object stylized, and at the same time recognizable. So see you in the next lesson.
