How to Underline Text in Illustrator Using the Character Panel
To underline text in Illustrator using the Character panel, first you need to open the Character panel. Go to Window > Type > Character or press Control-T.
The Underline command won't be visible by default. To make it visible, open the fly-out menu of the Character panel and go to Show Options.
Now select your text and just click that Underline button to easily underline your selected text.
How to Underline Text in Illustrator Using Tools
If you wish to underline your text using a different color, you can use the Line Tool (\). Keep in mind that you can hold down the Shift key as you click and drag to easily create a perfect horizontal line.
Once it's created, you can quickly adjust the color and size of the line from the control panel.
Alternatively, you can use the Pen Tool (P) to underline text in Illustrator. Use two simple clicks to create a line below your text to underline it.
As with the Line Tool, you can hold down the Shift key as you create this path to make sure that you're creating a horizontal line.
