What You'll Need for This Church Poster Tutorial

1. How to Design a Vibrant Church Poster Gradient Background

Step 1

Create a new document in Adobe Photoshop (File > New) using these dimensions and settings:

  • 7.25 in Width
  • 5.25 in Height
  • 300 Resolution
  • CMYK Color

Step 2

Go to View > New Guide Layout and change the Preset to Custom, Columns to 1, and Rows to 1. Change the Gutter to 20 px and change the Margin to 0.125 in for each side. Select OK. These guides will show you where the bleed is for your document.

Step 3

Create a Solid Color layer using the color #129747.

Step 4

Use the Rectangle Tool (U) to make five panels using these dimensions:

  • Panel 1: 577 px x 1453 px
  • Panel 2: 653 px x 1439 px
  • Panel 3: 315 px x 1313 px 
  • Panel 4: 413 px x 1508 px
  • Panel 5: 234 px x 1522 px

Right-Click each Panel layer and select Convert to Smart Object.

Step 5

Double-Click inside the Panel 1 thumbnail layer and open the woman worshipping photo in Photoshop. Place this photo inside the Panel 1 smart object. Resize (Command-T) the photo to fit the panel. Go to Image > Mode > Grayscale to turn the image black and white. Select Don't Merge when the merge dialog box appears. Save this file by going to File > Save.

Step 6

Apply these same settings to the next four panels by opening the relevant photos and placing them inside the smart object panels. Turn each panel to Grayscale and save the smart object.

Step 7

Open the 01_grainy.jpg from the abstract gradients file in Photoshop. Place it on top of the church flyer above the five panels. Resize the grainy gradient and change the Blending Mode to Hard Light.

2. How to Format Text and Images for a Church Conference Flyer Template

Step 1

With the Type Tool (T), add the name of your conference to the top of the flyer using these settings:

  • I Am: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 28 pt, #ffffff
  • Worthy!: Braydon Script, 112 pt, #ffffff
  • Conference: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 12 pt, #ffffff

Step 2

Apply a Drop Shadow Layer Style to the 'Worthy!' text layer by Double-Clicking the layer. Change the Blending Mode to Multiply using the color #0075bc and change the Opacity to 78%. Change the Distance to 38 px, Spread to 0%, and Size to 158%. Select OK.

Step 3

In the bottom left corner, add the 'Fun. Family. Friends.' text using the Type Tool (T). Use these settings:

  • Fun: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 19pt, #afdab1
  • Family: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 11pt, #afdab1
  • Friends: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 9pt, #afdab1

Step 4

Add the date to your church conference flyer design by grabbing the Ellipse Tool (U) and making a circle over the 'Fun. Family. Friends' text. Select the Horizontal Type Tool (T), click a section on the circle path, and type the date of the conference using the font Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 9.6 pt, and change the color to #ffffff.

Step 5

Add the conference address and web address using the following settings:

  • Address: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 10pt, #b4ddc6
  • Web address: Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy, 10pt, #ffffff

Step 6

Open the crown shield logo in Photoshop and delete the shield part of the logo. Change the text to the name of the church. Use the font Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy and Kross Neue Grotesk Book for the name.

Grab the Ellipse Tool (U) and make a circle behind the crown. Command-Click inside the crown thumbnail layer to activate the selection. Go to Select > Inverse and select the circle layer. Create a Layer Mask by selecting the mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel. Select the logo layers and convert them to smart objects by Right-Clicking > Convert to Smart Object. Drag this logo over to the conference flyer and change the Opacity to 90%.

Step 7

Grab the Rectangle Tool (U) and create a horizontal rectangle with the dimensions 400px x 73px. Open the 01_grainy.jpg image again in Photoshop and drag it on top of the rectangle layer. Right-Click the grainy gradient and select Create Clipping Mask.

Step 8

Add the "Speakers" headline above the gradient box using Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy 10pt font. Change the color of the font to #2e3a8f.

Step 9 

Grab the Ellipse Tool (U) and make a circle that is 431 px in diameter. Right-Click this circle and Convert to Smart Object. Open this smart object by Double-Clicking inside the smart object thumbnail. Open the man speaking at a seminar photo and place it in the circle smart object. Right-Click the photo and select Create Clipping Mask. Save this smart object by going to File > Save.

Step 10

Bring up the Layer Style box by Double-Clicking the speaker photo layer, and apply these settings. 

  • Blend Mode: Screen
  • Gradient (transparent): #00a7e2
  • Style: Linear
  • Angle: 48
  • Scale: 100%

Step 11

Repeat the previous steps by adding two more circles with the Ellipse Tool (U), converting them to smart objects, placing the photos, creating clipping masks, and applying gradients.

Step 12

Add the speaker's name and sermon title to the church conference flyer design by grabbing the Ellipse Tool and making a circle over the speaker's photo. Select the Horizontal Type Tool, click a section on the circle path, and type the text using the font Kross Neue Grotesk Heavy and Regular, 10pt, and #ffffff.

Step 13

Add the remaining speakers' names and sermon titles using the Ellipse Tool (U).

To change the position of the middle speaker's text, use the Type Tool and select the text. Command-Click the text path and drag the cursor from the highlighted section in red (pictured below) to the inside of the circle.
