How to Draw a Circle in Illustrator

Step 1

To draw a circle in Illustrator, start by picking the Ellipse Tool (T) from your toolbar.

Simply click and drag to start creating a new ellipse, and hold down the Shift key as you click and drag to easily turn your ellipse into a perfect circle.

Alternatively, you can use the Ellipse dialog box to draw a circle in Illustrator. Just click on your artboard to open the dialog box, set the size, and click OK to draw the circle in Illustrator.

How to Draw a Dotted Circle in Illustrator

Now that you've learned how to draw a circle in Illustrator, let's see how you can turn it into a dotted one.

Make sure that your shape is selected and focus on the Control panel (Window > Control). Remove the fill color and pick a color for the stroke. Set the stroke Weight as you wish, and then click that Stroke text to open the Stroke fly-out panel.

Start by checking the Dashed Line box to turn the stroke into a dashed one. Adjust the dash and gap values depending on the stroke's Weight value. You can also check that Align dashes to corners... button to make sure that there's an equal space between your dots. Finally, simply check that Round Cap button to turn the dashes into dots.
