What You’ll Need to Create Your Flyer Design
As well as access to InDesign, you’ll also need to download and install the following fonts:

1. How to Set Up the InDesign Flyer Template
Step 1
Open InDesign and go to File > New > Document.
To set the flyer dimensions, choose Letter for the page size and uncheck Facing Pages. Set the Margins to 0.5 in and add a Bleed of 0.25 in, before clicking Create.
Step 2
Expand the Layers panel (Window > Layers) and double-click on Layer 1, renaming it Beach.
Create four more new layers in this order: Price Tags, Wave, Type, and finally, Texture.
Then lock all the layers except Beach, which we’ll work on first.
Step 3
Expand the Swatches panel (Window > Color > Swatches) and choose New Color Swatch from the panel’s main menu.
Set the Color Mode to CMYK, and the levels below to C=100 M=80 Y=47 and K=54.
Click Add and Done.
Create two more new swatches:
- C=68 M=0 Y=32 K=0
- C=0 M=17 Y=62 K=0
2. How to Create a Beach Effect for Your Flyer Design
Step 1
Select the Pencil Tool (N) and trace the bleed edge of the page around the top-left corner, joining the shape up with a loose, wavy line diagonally across the corner.
Switch to the Smooth Tool (inside the Pencil Tool’s drop-down menu), and click and drag across the line, smoothing out the wave.
Set the Fill Color of the shape to your new yellow swatch, and the Stroke Color to [None].
Step 2
Expand the Beach layer in the Layers panel and click to highlight the <path> element inside the layer.
Drag this down onto the Create New Layer icon at the bottom of the panel to duplicate it.
Unlock the Wave layer, and select and drag the copy of the <path> element, dropping it into the Wave layer.
Then lock the Beach layer.
Step 3
On the yellow shape now sitting on the Wave layer, Right-Click > Transform > Rotate 180 Degrees.
Move the shape down to the bottom-right corner, scale it up a little, and change the Fill Color to your new turquoise swatch.
3. How to Add Price Tags to Your Flyer Template
Step 1
Open the Labels and tags illustration in Illustrator or an alternative vector program.
Isolate the simple price tag shape in the top-left corner, and Edit > Copy it.
Back in InDesign, lock the Wave layer and unlock the layer below, Price Tags.
Edit > Paste the vector onto the page, and position it centrally and at large-scale. Adjust the Fill Color to your new red swatch.
Step 2
Copy and Paste the price tag repeatedly, scaling these copies down and scattering them across the central, blank area of the flyer.
4. How to Format Type on Your Flyer Design
Step 1
Lock the Price Tags layer and unlock the Type layer.
Use the Type Tool (T) to create a small text frame at the top-left corner of the page. Type in an introductory line, and set the Font to George Sans Bold, Size 27 pt and All Caps.
Step 2
Create a large text frame directly below, typing in ‘SALE’ and setting the Font to Citrus Gothic Regular, Size 200 pt.
Step 3
Set a text frame in the bottom-right corner for a date, setting the Font to George Sans Bold, Align Right, and a [Paper] Font Color.
You can add the logo or title of your business in the top-right corner, setting the Font to George Sans Bold, Align Right, and a red Font Color.
Step 4
Create a new text frame over the top of the large price tag, and type in a percentage.
Set the Font to Citrus Gothic Regular, Size 105 pt, and a [Paper] Font Color.
Rotate the frame slightly so that it fits neatly inside the price tag shape.
Add an ‘UP TO’ smaller text frame above this, also set in Citrus Gothic.
Step 5
Copy and Paste the percentage text frame, and scale it down using the Free Transform Tool (E), adding one to each price tag shape on the flyer.
5. How to Add Texture to Your Flyer
Step 1
Lock the Type layer and unlock the top layer, Texture.
Use the Rectangle Tool (M) to create an image frame across the whole page.
Then File > Place, and navigate to one of the pale texture images inside the pack of Stucco seamless textures you downloaded earlier.
Step 2
With the image frame selected, head up to Object > Effects > Transparency. Set the Mode to Multiply, and bring the Opacity down to 45%.
Then click OK to exit.
6. How to Export Your Flyer for Printing
Step 1
When you’ve finished working on your flyer, head up to File > Export.
Choose Adobe PDF (Print) from the list of options in the Format menu, give the file a name, and click Save.
In the Export Adobe PDF window that opens, select Press Quality from the Preset menu at the top.
Step 2
Click on Marks and Bleeds in the window’s left-hand menu.
Check both All Printer’s Marks and Use Document Bleed Settings, before clicking Export.
InDesign will generate a press-ready PDF that you can send straight off to be professionally printed. Great job!
