How to Crochet a Rainbow Cup Cozy



The weather outside may be frightful, but rainbows make it delightful! Today you'll learn how to crochet your own rainbow cup cozies. If you’ve always wanted to learn how to crochet, follow our series of Crochet Fundamentals. This pattern uses US terms and stitches include half double crochet (hdc), back post half double crochet (BPhdc), and chain (ch).
Supplies



- Yarn (I used Stylecraft Special DK acrylic)
- Crochet hook (4mm)
- Darning needle for sewing in the ends
- Scissors

1. Crochet the Cozy
Step 1
Start with your red yarn. Begin by making a slip knot on your hook, then chain 35.



Step 2
Join into the first chain with a slip stitch; be careful not to twist the chain.



Step 3
Chain 2, then work 1hdc into each stitch. Join with a slip stitch into the second chain of your beginning chain 2.



Step 4
Work another round of hdc stitches.



Step 5
Grab your orange yarn, and begin the round with chain 2. Now work 1BPhdc around each stitch around (BPhdc = back post half double crochet). To make a BPhdc; yarn over, bring your hook behind the stitch, insert your hook from right to left around the entire stitch, or post; yarn over, pull up a loop, then yarn over again, and pull through all three loops on your hook.



Step 6
Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.



Step 7
Grab your yellow yarn, begin with a chain 2, then work 1PBhdc around each stitch around. Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.



Step 8
Grab your green yarn, begin with a chain 2, then work 1PBhdc around each stitch around. Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.



Step 9
Grab your blue yarn, begin with a chain 2, then work 1PBhdc around each stitch around. Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.



Step 10
Grab your indigo yarn, begin with a chain 2, then work 1PBhdc around each stitch around. Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.



Step 11
Grab your purple yarn, begin with a chain 2, then work 1PBhdc around each stitch around. Work another round of (regular) hdc stitches.
