How to Create an Iridescent Snake-Textured Text Effect in Adobe Photoshop



In this quick tip, we are going to create a simple Layer Style text effect, similar to the text effects that can be purchased on Envato Market. We'll be using a bunch of textures, a pattern, and a couple of layer effects to create a snake-textured text effect. Let's get started!
Tutorial Assets
The following assets were used during the production of this tutorial:
- Ballpark Weiner font
- Texture 42 by xnienke
- Texture 630 by Sirius-sdz
- Premium Blur Backgrounds bundle by raspanky
- Rubber grip pattern by Sinisha
- Free Pack 6000 photoshop gradients by Supertuts007 (Load the CSP True Sky Gradients.grd and FOILS.grd files)
1. Create the Background Gradient
Step 1
Create a new 800 x 600px document, and duplicate the Background layer.



Step 2
Double-click the Background copy layer to apply a Gradient Overlay effect using the following settings:
- Check the Dither box
- Scale: 150%
- Use the gradient fill below



This will add the background's gradient.



2. Add the Textures
Step 1
Place the Texture 42 image on top of the Background copy layer, and then change its layer's Blend Mode to Soft Light and its Opacity to 75%.



Step 2
Add the Texture 630 image, and change its layer's Blend Mode to Soft Light.



Step 3
Add image 6 (2) from the Premium Blur Backgrounds bundle, and change its layer's Blend Mode to Multiply.



Step 4
Add image 9 from the Premium Blur Backgrounds bundle, and then change its layer's Blend Mode to Color and its Opacity to 20%.



3. Create and Style the Text
Step 1
Create the text using the font Ballpark Weiner, and place its layer below image 9's layer. The Color is #7bb6cf, and the Size is 150 pt.



Double-click the text layer to apply the following layer style:

Add a Bevel and Emboss with these settings:
- Size: 10
- Uncheck the Use Global Light box
- Angle: 11
- Altitude: 64
- Gloss Contour: Cone - Inverted
- Check the Anti-aliased box
- Highlight Mode: Vivid Light
- Opacity: 75%
- Shadow Mode:

Color:
#474747 - Opacity: 75%



Step 3
Add a Contour with these settings:
- Contour: Guassian - Inverse
- Check the Anti-aliased box
- Range: 65%



Step 4
Add a Texture with these settings:
- Pattern: Rubber grip



Step 5
Add an Inner Shadow with these settings:

#2a84a9 - Distance: 0
- Size: 5



Step 6
Add an Inner Glow with these settings:
- Blend Mode: Linear Light
- Opacity: 44%
- Noise: 50%
- Color: Use the drum 10 gradient fill
- Source: Center
- Size: 21
- Contour: Cone - Shallow



Step 7
Add a Satin with these settings:
- Blend Mode: Linear Light

#fff1c0 - Opacity: 25%
- Angle: 7
- Distance: 108
- Size: 35
- Contour: Ring - Triple
- Check the Anti-aliased box
- Check the Invert box



Step 8
Add a Gradient Overlay with these settings:
- Blend Mode: Overlay
- Opacity: 42%
- Use the gradient fill below



Step 9
Add a Pattern Overlay with these settings:
- Blend Mode: Soft Light
- Pattern: Nebula



Step 10
Add a Drop Shadow with these settings:

#1b1635 - Opacity: 100%
- Distance: 7
- Size: 10

In this quick tip, we used a simple gradient and a bunch of textures to create the background. Then, we created some text and styled it with many different effects to create the snake-textured look.
