Photoshop in 60 Seconds: Isolated Objects

How to Create an Isolated Object in Photoshop
Let's create an isolated object in two simple ways. First, open your image in Photoshop; here I'll be using this Ribbon Stock (no longer available).
Select the background layer from the Layers panel and add a quick Layer Mask. Now select the Brush Tool (B) and paint black onto the white Layer Mask to remove the background.
You can easily turn the background back on by right-clicking the Mask and selecting Disable Mask.
For the second method, remove the background from any image by using one of Photoshop's extraction tools. Here I'll be using the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L), but the Magic Wand Tool (W) also works great in this scenario. Simply trace around the subject to create a selection, right-click to Inverse the Selection, and then hit Delete to remove the background.
For the best results, Save your isolated object as either a transparent PNG or PSD file.
